Counseling is a profession within the framework of helping professions. Its goal is to value, support and guide the potentials of the person that needs help, promoting active and pro-active behaviors, and stimulating the ability to choose. Volunteers lead the project from the association, graduated in counseling within MIUR accredited schools with a systemic orientation, and that took an accurate trainingwithin the association as well, in a specific context such as mental health and social rehabilitation. The service is devoted to individuals, to family members or caregivers of people with mental health problems and it is carried out at Progetto Itaca through:
carried out through two interviews. The first one is focused on welcoming the person and listening to the person’s personal and family history; the second one is based on the discussion between the counselor and the person asking for help for the reframing and reconsideration of the person’s priorities, towards the recognition and the acknowledgment of the actual need.
one or more individual or family meetings to increase and facilitate the awareness of a problematic situation and to support the right of receiving help. It is a space where you can feel encouraged and oriented to make contact with the right professional.
emotional proximity and encouragement at critical times in the life of a person in need who has poor access to treatment and of their family. They are time-limited tracks with a goal that was defined and agreed upon through the initial need assessment.
